Largo, FL
A shining beacon in the Tampa Metropolitan Area, Largo is a coastal city full of ambiance, culture, industry, and nature, all in one scenic location. Originally inhabited by the Native American tribe the Tocobaga, the area was later settled by the Spanish in the 16th century. Even back then, Largo was known for their agriculture and livestock industries, particularly vegetables and citrus. In fact, it was those supplies that Largo would help contribute to the war effort during the American Civil War. After the war ended, the city continued to expand, due to flocks of citrus farmers wanting to plant in its rich soil. This continued when Lake Largo was drained in 1916 for more growth and development. Though expansion was stifled during the Great Depression, the city began regrowing following World War II.
Today, the city is known for their public parks, the Largo Public Library, and the Central Park Performing Arts Center, where you can see anything from live music to theater. Largo is also well known for their beaches and aquatic activities. Including the nearby Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Largo is a community that truly gets behind one another, not hesitating to celebrate its culture through festivals, or supporting locally owned business ventures. With all of these amenities within the city limits, it is easy to see why Largo continues to grow right before our eyes.
