We are so excited that it’s almost Christmas!
No matter how many you get to celebrate with this year, Christmas is full of endless commotion. It is a wonderful time to be shared with your relatives and friends, but always be mindful of possibilities that holiday damage can occur. We always want you to be safe and secure while celebrating the most joyous occasion of the year!
Here are three quick tips when having guests over for Christmas:
1. Protect the home.
Maybe not to the extent of Kevin McAllister, but you know how to if necessary! Be mindful of excess wiring and Christmas lights around the house. Be sure to have everything securely plugged into working and non-broken outlets. Loose connections due to sketchy sockets can cause short circuits or even fires. Be sure your lighting wires are not fraying as exposed wiring can be harmful if touched.
2. Double check your insurance policies.
We recommend reviewing your homeowners policy annually and letting your Agent know about significant changes like adding a swimming pool or solar panels. Did you get a new pet? Don’t forget animal liability!
You should also review your personal liability limits and consider adding an Umbrella Policy if you haven’t already. Accidents still happen, even when it’s only family members going in and coming out of your home. Some injuries can occur on or around your property too, so having the right coverage will give you peace of mind if any accidents occur.
3. Protecting your personal property.
Nobody wants to ever deal with theft, especially if there is a mix of friends, family and friends of friends. While there is much joy during the holidays, it is also the most prominent time for theft claims. Be sure to lock up valuable items especially if you are expecting guests that you may not know.
