Bodily Injury (BI) is a liability coverage and pays for injury you cause to others as a result of an accident for which you are legally responsible. Coverage limits can be in a single limit (one amount to pay for both Bodily Injury and Property Damage caused to others) or split limits where there are separate specific limits for BI per person, another limit for the total BI limit available per accident, and a third limit for the amount available for Property Damage (PD) caused to others in an accident.
- This coverage is required under Florida law, despite the availability of being able to purchase Auto Insurance without (BI). If you are involved in an accident and you do not have (BI) coverage. Your driver’s license is immediately suspended and subject to excessive reinstatement fees. You will be required to purchase insurance with a State Required notification for up to 3 years, you may be required to pay the policy in full, and you are still responsible for the Injury you cause to others but now you are required to pay the damages out of pocket.
- The Florida minimum required limit of BI coverage is $10,000 per person, $20,000 per accident. Or if you choose to purchase a single limit option, the minimum required limit is $25,000.
- Higher limits of coverage are available including excess umbrella liability to further increase your protection.
- It is very important to review these limits with your Agent and secure adequate limits to protect you and your family or business as large sums are awarded for Bodily Injury caused to others.
