Every year, we look forward to October 31st as it is a break from the normal and a step toward the spooky! With some of the major holidays coming up at the end of the year, we owe it to ourselves to have fun and always keep safe during Halloween. Surprisingly enough, there are spikes in different insurance claims every year and we will go over a variety of claims to help bring awareness on the day of major scares!
1. Vandalism.
There tends to be many insurance claims for car and property vandalism around Halloween. While traditional pranks have involved eggs or toilet paper, some people may take things further. Even some days leading up to Halloween can be a little strange. When it comes to any projectiles hitting your vehicle, a comprehensive car insurance policy typically covers your car if the damage can’t be rectified.
When it comes to your property, one great way to always be in control of potential situations is to have your property well lit. With so many new “creatures” out at night, it will be easier to see potential threats if your decorations are bright and bewitched.
2. More cars than usual.
As many people like to bounce from different neighborhoods for parties, haunted houses, or a séance, be on the lookout for more traffic everywhere you end up on the 31st. That empty neighborhood down the street may be packed due to the trick-or-treating and other outer worldly festivities.
3. More pedestrians than usual.
As with extra vehicles, you should expect more kids, teens, and parents to be walking the streets. Whether they are in costumes or looking spooky all on their own, it is wise to look in all directions if you are driving or keep a watchful eye around your general area. It is completely understandable to be cautious around all the different life-forms walking in different directions around your neighborhood, property, and town.
4. Jack-O-Lanterns.
These are the number one fire hazard on the 31st! Many people do not realize that a jack-o-lantern is a pumpkin with a flame inside of it. While they are harmless on the outside, one small gust of wind can knock the candle over and start a small fire inside the gourd.
5. “Interesting” candy or food items.
We have always been a little weary of opened candy being given to children or baked goods from strangers. This cautious behavior is necessary and should not be overlooked. While some people do not like to participate by turning their lights off, some other people out there may participate in a very different manner. Always remember to inspect your children’s trick-or-treat haul for anything you shouldn’t eat.
Above all, we are not here to scare you! We want you to enjoy Halloween and its weekend however you want but we are here for you when you need us. Be sure to take precautions to protect your family, your cars, and your property this Halloween and beyond. Nobody wants to file a claim, especially in the middle of the night!
