When a pipe is constantly leaking (even if it is only a small amount of water), it creates the ideal environment for mold to grow. The best thing you can do is to find leaks early and take care of them as soon as possible. Make it a point to inspect your home from time to time so you can find any leaks sooner rather than later.
Keep Water Out
Pipes aren’t the only thing that can create wet environments for mold to grow. In fact, a lot of the moisture that leads to mold growth will actually come from outside your home. If you have a leak in your roof or big gaps around doors or windows, it can easily let moisture into your space. To avoid this problem, you want to make sure to seal any cracks and make sure your roof is in good condition. If you maintain it well, A metal roof can last 70 years or more (in some parts of the country–unfortunately this is not the case in Florida).
Change Your Air Filters Regularly
One of the big problems with mold is that it can send out spores through the air. These spores can cause issues when you breathe in your home. It’s important to change out your air filters so you can catch any spores in the air and prevent mold from infiltrating. You should be changing out your air filters every couple of months at most to keep your air clear.
When you know your home is free of mold, it will help you to be more comfortable and safe in your space. Mold can happen in any home, but if you are being proactive, you can combat it. Taking care to keep your home free of mold will keep you and your family feeling safe and happy at home.
