Halloween is only a few days away! As we all prepare our homes to have some guests from all over the neighborhood come by, anything can happen from sunset to sunrise. While Halloween has remained relatively safe, there are always some exceptions. Some have seen property damage to a neighbor’s home or their own due to vandals in the past. Others may have had some questionable experiences with welcoming other neighborhood families into their own. While the night is all in good fun, there may have been some moments that may not have gone over well. We put together some quick tips to make sure you have a safe Halloween weekend.
Be sure to walk your property before the sun goes down.
Making sure your property is safe for you, and your guests during the night is extremely important. Since it is so dark outside, there could be an increased risk of injury. It is a great idea to clear any obstacles from the yard or walkway. If you have decorations, please make sure that power cords are secured to avoid any tripping. Make a nice pathway to your door that is well-lit and clear of any debris. When caught up in the moment of trick-or-treating, many children may be unaware of the potential hazards of an unruly lawn.
Welcoming your neighbors from different areas can invite risk.
In the times of social media, it may be unwise to make events public. While it is great to let your friends know what is happening, many others who you may not know can see this information too. Be cautious of how you will invite close friends over for a get together. If you are hosting a haunted house, make sure to be on the defensive when bringing a large attraction to your property. While most visitors have best intentions, unintentional accidents may occur on your property. Some accidents can result in some damage to the property if things get a bit out of hand.
Choose your lighting wisely.
Decorations come in all shapes and sizes, and so does lighting. For higher visibility, LED lighting is the way to go. An LED light strip can be seen from a long distance away and can provide excellent light coverage for your home at night. Please try to avoid open flames or drape any fabric material on top of lights that produce heat. Fires are not the best way to light up your property.
